A LONG TRIP THROUGH THE KURONIAN LAGOON TO POLESSK “MYSTERIES AND LEGENDS OF LABIAU” (7 hours)

The trip will start from the hotel “Sambia” by bus and will keep on by the comfortable boat “Elisa”. After the one-hour fantastic trip near the banks of the Kuronian Spit we will land near White Dunes. Then we will cross the Kuronian Lagoon and enter the Deima riverbed admiring the unique construction of the Eaglebridge (Adlerbrücke). Later we will travel to Polessk by electric cars. The town contains a castle built by the Teutonic Order, who gave it the German name Labiau (1258). It became part of Ducal Prussia and on November 20, 1656 was the location of the Treaty of Labiau. While part of East Prussia within the Kingdom of Prussia and the German Empire, Labiau was a district seat in the administrative region of Königsberg. After the tour on the town we will have a lunch and then move to the Castle to enjoy the short, but graceful show “Mysteries of the Labiau Castle” performed by young actors of Polessk theater. In the evening we will travel to Zelenogradsk by bus.

The number of the passengers on the boat is limited. That is why in the case the quantity of participants will be more, than 50 persons, we will organize the second trip in reverse order.

A TRIP TO THE SCHAAKEN CASTLE AND FAREWELL DINNER (27.07.2010, 15.00-22.00)

Let’s go on with our castle adventures! Starting from the Sambia hotel by bus, in half an hour we will reach walls of the Schaaken castle. Hospitable proprietors in old-fashioned clothes will meet us in the castle yard in company of poultries, goats, and a miraculous, but affectionate black cat. After a light snack (self-made on fire sausages, smoked fish, beer, drinks, etc.) we can put on medieval clothes and take part in excursions, competitions, archery, and so on. A reconstruction of ancient chivalrous contest will be followed by a conference dinner in the castle refectory. One can taste pork heads and sizes, loafs with chicken giblets, pickles, and another dishes of the Prussian kitchen. Dances in the castle yard will be one of the pleasures of this evening!
Sport and walking clothes and shoes are recommended.
